Payson Tourney

Softball tournament in Payson March 19th and 20th. What a good tournament for these girls. There were some really big schools there. Most of these teams were state champs or runner ups in 2009. Mogollon was the smallest school there. Camp Verde was there and they are 2A but we didn't get to play them. We were in a pool with Santa Cruz, Snowflake, & Dobson. We played on Friday to see where they would seat us the next day with the other schools. 1st game was Santa Cruz High. They are a very good team from Eloy who played so tough. They were so good that when our girls would steal the catcher could get them out before we got there. They were a good team to play. We lost 11-1 which I thought the girls did well. Alyssa played first base this game.

Next game was against Dobson High. Wow Mogollon started out well, Alyssa was pitching and going so good. Dobson started scoring on us and we just crumbled. The girls just gave up and we really could have done better and scored more. We lost 15-2 on that game. After I talked to Whitmer and he was soooo red from screaming at the girls. He was so dissapointed in them.

Next game was @ 7 p.m. against Snowflake. Alyssa played 1st base again. The girls went in with a better attitude and were actually cheering each other on. On one play a girl hit the ball they over threw to Alyssa she got the ball the girl was going to 3rd and Alysssa threw the ball to 3rd and got her out. That got her blood pumping. We lost 2-1 but these girls were excited they did so well.

Next day it is so dang cold the wind is killer and we play Flagstaff. Alyssa played 1st this game. They played so hard and we are scoring and they are scoring. Time is almost up and the score is tied 4-4. They finally say time is up and we need to finish the inning. Flagstaff is up to bat, bases are loaded 2 outs. A girls hits to short and a girl runs in and wins the game 5-4.

Next game was against Wickenburg. Alyssa was warming up to pitch and the catcher Katia Honsinger wasn't paying attention and hit Alyssa right on the cheek under the eye. This is before the dang game starts and she has to pitch AAAAHHHH!!

She did really well though. These girls were tall and big. 4 of the girls could crank that ball out there. So one girl gets up to bat that can hit, Whitmer yells to Alyssa "HIT HER" hahaha better to hit her and give her the base instead of getting more points.

Alyssa hit a ball so hard in this game and got 2 runs in and she made it to 2nd base!!! It was exciting but these dang girs just give up so easy. We di better though and score was 13-6. Very good tourny for them. We are hitting and fielding so much better than last year. Way to go mustangs.
